Community Engagement Campaign Ahead of Airborne Gravity and Magnetic Survey in PEL 93

Core Elements

  • Community engagement campaign in progress in preparation for the airborne gravity, magnetic and radiometric survey
  • Update of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and
  • Amendment to the Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC)

As part of preparations for the upcoming airborne gravity, magnetic and radiometric survey in PEL 93, Monitor has commissioned the Namibian consultancy company Earth Environmental Services (EES) to conduct a comprehensive community engagement campaign.

This initiative is aimed at ensuring transparent communication and strong support to all relevant stakeholders, including farmers, local communities, and regional authorities.

EES has been leading efforts to:

  • plan and distribute public notices in strategic locations with practical information (implications, level of disturbance, zero hazard, expected time frame of aircraft intervention, etc.) of the gravity survey and the aircraft fly-over;
  • coordinate meetings with local officials, such as the Governor, CRO, and Councillors from the Guinas, Tsumeb, and Nehale constituencies;
  • engage directly with farmers and, where feasible, broader communities within Ondera and Ombili, in coordination with local leadership;
  • prepare broadcast of targeted radio announcements shortly before and during aircraft operations, as will be advised by councillors.

In collaboration with the gravity survey contractor, an exclusion zone has been established in the western part of the survey area to ensure no airborne activity occurs over the Etosha National Park, thereby upholding all environmental and regulatory safeguards.

The community engagement campaign is expected to run for approximately four weeks, preceding the gravity acquisition program. In parallel, Monitor and EES have updated the current EMP and applied on 17 July 2025 for an amendment to the ECC to incorporate airborne methods into the company’s exploration toolkit.

As previously announced, Monitor plan to undertake a high-resolution airborne gravity, magnetic and radiometric survey covering 6,000 line kms across the southern portion of PEL 93. This area includes the highly prospective Lead 9 and surrounding structures. The acquisition commencement is pending the contractor’s Namibian aviation permit, anticipated in Q3 2025, and results are expected in Q4 2025.

This proactive and inclusive approach reinforces Monitor’s commitment to responsible exploration and environmental stewardship in the Owambo Basin.
